About the event
A practical one-day introduction to making charcoal using a retort system. You’ll learn how to use smaller, unsuitable wood to fuel the burn, heating quality timber in a sealed central barrel to produce efficient charcoal.
Throughout the day, we’ll cover how the retort works, how to manage the burn, and how to judge when the charcoal is ready. This is a hands-on session with plenty of opportunity to understand the full process from lighting through to cooling and emptying.
We’ll be working outdoors around the burn site, so dress for the weather and wear sturdy clothes suitable for smoke and soot.
To be eligible for this course you must live, work or volunteer in Denbighshire.
